These 20 amazing Canadian Pride festivals proudly wave the rainbow flag

· Advertising ·

There are 72 Canadian Pride festivals that are a part of Fierté Canada Pride (FCP), the national association of Canadian Pride organizations. Though there might be other less formalized Pride organizations across the country, these 72 have banded together to share ideas and resources.

Some Prides, like Toronto’s and Montreal’s, are massive multi-day festivals that draw visitors from around the world. Others, like the ones in Minden, Ontario, and Wood Buffalo, Alberta, are celebrations of community—though outsiders are sure to find themselves embraced by the local community. Small town Prides might not have massive stages featuring well-known performers, but they have a lot of heart.

We can’t list all 72 Fierté Canada Pride members here (you can find them on the organization’s website), but we can shout out the biggest and the most unique across the country. Here’s our list of Canada’s best Prides to visit in the next year.

The world famous

Pride Toronto (main weekend June 26 to 29, 2025). One of the world’s biggest Prides—up there with São Paulo, New York and Madrid—organizers say that more than 3.1 million people attended in 2024. Though there are events through the entire month of June, it’s the final weekend that packs the downtown. There are multiple free entertainment stages with acts both international and local, and throngs of crowds wandering around the pedestrianized streets of the Gay Village. Along with the Sunday parade, which had more than 200,000 marchers in 2024, there’s a Trans March on Friday and a Dyke March on Saturday, all taking over Toronto’s main street. For those who want to spend more, there are dozens of ticketed parties and cultural events to attend all month.

Fierté Montréal (July 31 to August 10, 2025). With about a half a million attendees, Quebec’s metropolis does not quite do the number that Toronto does. But it’s still huge, and has a je ne sais quoi that’s won it die-hard fans. The Sunday parade-watching experience is relaxed and social. And having a series of massive dance parties in a single venue, the Olympic Park Esplanade, which has a capacity of more than 56,000 people, can feel more unifying than Toronto’s method of spreading out attendees at multiple stages. That said, there are usually performances and cultural events at venues all over the downtown. Community Days in the pedestrianized Gay Village allows attendees to find out about the city’s LGBTQ2S+-focused sport and sociocultural clubs.

Vancouver Pride (July 28 to August 4, 2025 dates). With hundreds of thousands of attendees, Vancouver’s Pride is the heavy hitter of Western Canada. VanPrideFest is a free two-day outdoor festival in a green waterfront space, featuring multiple stages and lots of dancing. In 2024, the Sunday parade attracted 100,000 attendees, when Vancouver hosted Canada Pride, a supersized edition of the usual festival. The Vancouver Dyke March and Festival, which usually takes place the final Pride weekend, has been organized by a women-led nonprofit group since 2004. The Trans, Two-Spirit, Genderqueer, Intersex March also usually takes place on the final Pride weekend.

Capital and mid-sized city experiences

Halifax Pride (July 17 to July 27, 2025). The largest Pride in Atlantic Canada, Halifax’s attracts more than 120,000 visitors from around both the region and the country. The event was founded as a politically motivated march in 1988, but Halifax Pride now boasts more than 150 community and Pride-organized events during the 10-day festival.

Fierté de Québec (August 29 to September 1, 2025). Always held during the Labour Day long weekend, the Quebec capital’s Pride is both fun and political. It’s also set against the beautiful backdrop of historic Old Québec. Formerly known as Fête Arc-en-ciel, the festival was founded 21 years ago.

Capital Pride (usually mid-August; 2025 dates TBA). With a surge these days in Canadian patriotism, the national capital’s 2025 Pride festivities should be extra special. More than 10,000 people marched in the parade last year. But it’s not just politics—they’ve got DJs and entertainment stages, too, during its final weekend.

Pride Winnipeg (May 23 to June 1, 2025). More than 50,000 people attend this Pride of the Prairies. The festival is built around five key events: Flag Raising, Vigil, Rally, Parade and, for those who think of Pride as a party, the Festival at the Forks.

Edmonton Pride Festival (August 22 to 24, 2025). The organization Pride Edmonton hosts events all year long, particularly Pride season from May to August. But if what you’re really looking for is a parade, parties and outdoor entertainment stages, plan on visiting during the main festival in August.

Calgary Pride (usually late August; 2025 dates TBA). More than 100,000 people attend Cowtown’s Pride, which dates back to 1988. The parade winds through downtown Calgary to Prince’s Island Park, a lovely green space where the festival happens.

Empowering Two-Spirit peoples

Though many of the city Prides, particularly Winnipeg’s, have Two-Spirit programming, here are just a few smaller Prides that put Indigenous people in the spotlight.

Wabanaki Two-Spirit Alliance (next gathering TBA; last one was March 2025). Representing Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer and LGBTQIA+ individuals across Wabanaki Territory (Eastern Canada and U.S.), this group hosts annual gatherings.

Tyendinaga Pride (usually late May; 2025 dates TBA). Organized by the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, this festival features comedy and drag performances, film screenings and a Car Pride parade.

Wood Buffalo Pride (events start June 1, 2025; main festival takes place June 28). Compromising a huge territory, with Fort McMurray as the hub, this Pride takes place on the traditional territory of the Cree, Dene and Métis people and provides events and other programming to Indigenous people.

Columbia Valley Pride (usually June in Invermere, British Columbia; 2025 dates TBA). Celebrating in the East Kootenays, the organization states that it is committed to the decolonization of Pride and of the land, which is the territories of the Ktunaxa and Secwepemc Nations, and the Columbia Valley Metis Association.

Kelowna Pride (May 26 to June 1, 2025). The largest Pride in the B.C. interior attracts more than 12,000 attendees. It launched its Two-Spirit Powwow in 2024 as an annual event.

Snowy and sporty

Jasper Pride & Ski Festival (April 4 to 13, 2025; 2026 dates TBA). With a colourful parade schussing down the slopes, you might need to wax your skis for this high-altitude Pride festival.

Peak Pride (usually late February; 2026 dates TBA). Held in the tiny resort village of Sun Peaks, this ski-focused Pride has a mountainside Pride parade…and drag bingo.

Party where people usually unwind

Pride PEI (July 25 to August 3, 2025). Canada’s most huggable province hosts a Pride in its capital, Charlottetown, that’s as friendly and folksy as you’d expect.

Fierté Charlevoix (usually late May; 2025 dates TBA). In the beautiful Québec countryside, an artsy queer community makes for a colourful celebration.

Check out our story on Charlevoix here.

Muskoka Pride (July 19 to 27, 2025). Pull up a Muskoka chair for a chill celebration in Ontario’s cottage country.

Salt Spring Pride Festival (late July; 2025 dates TBA). The hippie-inflected arts-and-crafts population of this Gulf Island, British Columbia location love to flaunt their creativity and their queerness.
